The Skeptic’s Journey: From Engineer to Reiki Practitioner

I came across an interesting post on the Reiki subreddit that caught my attention. It’s about an engineer, someone very much grounded in science, who tried Reiki for the first time. At first, he felt a bit skeptical, but then something unexpected happened. He felt sensations in his heart and solar plexus. More surprising, the Reiki practitioner seemed to know things about him that they couldn’t have possibly known. The skeptic had an experience he couldn’t explain. I’ve had similar experiences.

This was exactly how I felt when I first got into all of this. I was DEEPLY skeptical and while I did some reiki to “try it out” I really didn’t think much would come from it, but I was wrong. Despite being in a world now that’s very much aligned with energy healing, medicine, healing and spirituality aka #weirdshit, I was once a hardcore skeptic myself. I am an engineer, grounded in logic and science, convinced that everything had to be proven. I didn’t believe in anything unless I could see it, touch it, or measure it. But once I became a practitioner and had multiple experiences that i couldn’t explain I became a believer.

It’s funny how life works, isn’t it? What starts as a curiosity or an experiment (or an attempt to debunk) can lead you down an entirely new path. It’s all about experiencing it for yourself (multiple times) and seeing how these experiences can expand and enrich your life.
