Make Space: The Magic Needs Room to Breathe
I just got back from Ireland where I was learning how to facilitate firewalking (yes, literally walking on fire). As part of our final exam, we had to build and light our own fire structure from scratch. And something really simple—but powerful—happened that’s stuck with me.
When it came time to light our fire, it struggled. It just wouldn't catch the way it should have. And the reason? I packed the wood too tight.
Sure, it was stable. It looked solid. But I didn’t leave enough space for the oxygen to flow. And without that space, the fire couldn’t breathe—couldn’t ignite, couldn’t grow.
And man, that hit me hard.
Because it’s not just about that fire. It’s about my life and your life.
If your life is packed too full; every hour scheduled, every thought consumed, every inch occupied—there’s no space for oxygen to get in. No room for the universe to move. No opening for synchronicity to work its magic. The Universe is always trying to bring the magic and opportunities to you but if your schedule is packed so tight you can’t change your mind or accept that last minute invitation you arent giving your life enough oxygen to catch fire.
It reminded me of the Law of Attraction. You can’t just want something and keep running at full speed, fully booked, totally jammed. You have to make space for that desire to land. You have to leave a little room for the unseen to show up. You have to stack the wood right, you have to use the right wood, etc.
Just like the fire needed air between the logs to catch, we need moments of emptiness. Gaps. Stillness. Space between the doing. Gaps for the magic to arrive or sneak in.
That’s where the fire starts.
That’s where change happens.
That’s where magic lives.
So if you're feeling stuck or wondering why the breakthrough hasn’t come yet—ask yourself: have I left (or made) space for it?
Leave a little room for the universe to surprise you. I’ll see you next time.
